GRACE FOX  .  FOXY FILMS

A film photographer and creative director whose work is defined by a deep passion for storytelling and the timeless craft of analog photography. Grace’s journey began at the age of 15, when her passion for videography began while training to become a professional dancer. In 2019, she spent six transformative months living and studying in Spain. This experience not only expanded her cultural circumference  but also took her to Switzerland, Germany, Dubai, and Vietnam immersing herself in diverse lifestyles and perspectives. After four months into her Euro trip, Grace decided to step away from dance and channel her creative energy into a new direction, one that allowed her to explore the world through her camera.

Born and raised underneath Darwin's tropical sun, Grace grew up in a landscape where the coastlines met open skies, and the sunsets painted the horizon with melting colours. The Northern Territory, with its untamed wilderness and rich Indigenous cultures, was more than just her home, it became the foundation of her creative vision. From an early age, Grace was immersed in the diverse cultures that make Darwin so unique, and this constant interaction with different ways of life fueled her deep curiosity about the world around her.

Grace’s upbringing was shaped by a deep connection to the land and the stories it held. The traditional and modern influences gave her an understanding of the relationship between people and their environments, something that would later inform her work behind the camera. As she grew older, this environment nurtured her artistic instincts, first through dance and later through film photography, which became her true creative outlet. The untouched landscapes of the Northern Territory, combined with the cultural richness of the communities she grew up in, inspired Grace to see the world through a unique lens. Her camera became a way to capture the raw emotions and stories that are woven into the land and its people. Grace’s background in Darwin not only influenced her perspective but also instilled in her a passion for storytelling that goes beyond the surface, allowing her to create imagery that feels deeply authentic and connected to the world around her.

When she discovered the power of film as a medium. Drawing inspiration from iconic pioneers in photography such as Max Dupain, Man Ray, and Slim Aarons, her work is combined with a mixture of history, elegance, and authenticity in a way that makes every image feel like a moment suspended in time.

In 2020, she completed her Creative Arts in Film studies at Darwin High School, with both of her final projects, 'Awakening' and 'The Summer of 20', being showcased in the NT ‘EXIT ARTS’ Exhibition displayed at the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory. That year marked the beginning of her freelance career, now known as Foxy Films, where Grace embraced the world of film photography. Through Foxy Films, she has shared her authentic worldview and collaborated with brands and models featured with IMG, Balistarz, Selective Management, Que Agency, Bamby Model Management, Scout NT, People's Agency, L'Urv Activewear, Nature Spirits Designs, and many more.

In 2021, Grace worked full-time as a videographer’s assistant at Campaign Edge Sprout, gaining invaluable experience in commercial projects for clients like Kirkland Gold Mine, Core Lithium, EAU Union, Glencore, Territory Q Magazine, and more. Handling social media promotion for the Darwin Waterfront and the International Laksa Festival in 2019 and 2020.

Early 2022 at 19 years old, while continuing her creative journey, Grace set off on a transformative adventure, leaving Darwin to commence her studies in Film and Television Studies and Media and Digital Cultures at the University of Queensland. These studies have been the perfect platform to refine her passion and push creative boundaries. During university breaks, Grace travelled to Indonesia, Timor-Leste, and Thailand, reconnecting with the cultures she was familiar with. From visiting remote islands and local families to embracing different religious practices, these experiences deepened her understanding of the human condition and reignited her sense of purpose. Along the way, she captured stories of resilience and connection, from indigenous ceremonies in the Northern Territory to the natural wonders of the Sunshine Coast hinterlands. Her work, rooted in these experiences, reveals a sensitivity to the spirit of people and places, honouring the emotion and depth that film photography so uniquely conveys.

The past three years have taught Grace invaluable lessons about patience, resilience, and observation. As an artist, she has learned that nothing happens overnight. Success isn’t just about the destination, it’s about the journey.

Each photograph not only captures a moment but tells a story, one that resonates on an emotional level, connecting viewers to the soul of her subjects and the atmosphere of the environments she explores. Her portfolio reflects a diverse range of experiences, from the serene beauty of nature to the atmospheric aura of cultural events, all while maintaining her signature style of refined, filmic storytelling. Through her work, Grace continues to push the boundaries of what film photography can do. Her mission is to infuse her art with authenticity and beauty, offering a perspective that challenges the ordinary and celebrates the extraordinary. With an eye for detail and a dedication to her craft, Grace Fox invites audiences to see the world through her lens and to find inspiration in the stories she tells.
